Rhenus Reorganises Its Business Activities on the Asian Market

by Press Release on 2012-02-14

Rhenus LogisticsThe Rhenus Group set up Rhenus Logistics Holding Asia Pte. Ltd at the beginning of the year in order to pool its Asian business within a new company. A Member of the Rhenus Board, Uwe Oemmelen, will in future manage the merger of the three former Rhenus organisations in Asia from Singapore.

The new holding company is designed to coordinate the Asian business activities of Rhenus Logistics Asia-Pacific based in Hong Kong and the Rhenus ProLog Logistics companies based in South and South-East Asia under one umbrella.

“We believe there is enormous potential for growth both in Eurasian freight traffic and on the inner Asian market as a result of economic advancement and the rise in population. The relocation of my workplace to Singapore enables us to provide support at management board level for integrating the organisations to bring them in line with the Contract Logistics, Port Logistics and Freight Logistics business areas,” says Rhenus Board Member Uwe Oemmelen, stating the reasons for his change of workplace. Singapore is also set to become a corporate hub for the distribution of goods across Asia.

Rhenus is not just aiming to make greater use of the existing potential of its three companies by reorganising its business activities on the Asian market. Acquisitions are planned in order to consolidate the network in South Asia, the ASEAN countries and China in the long term. The ongoing qualification of employees and the recruiting of young members of staff from the local regions also play a major role in this process for the logistics services provider.

Rhenus now has its own business centres in Asia in the following countries: China, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Philippines. Rhenus took a majority holding in the ProLog Group in the autumn of 2010 and increased its turnover in South and South-East Asia by approx. US$ 50 million as a result. Rhenus Logistics has been operating in the Asia/Pacific region through Rhenus Logistics Asia-Pacific since 2002.
